HER PHILOSOPHY

“The best travel writing is written a week after you come home, when you can finally tell which moments were the trip and which were just the schedule.”

THE STORY

Write it slowly, and only about places you have stayed.

Portrait of Sadia Farooqui, Blog Writer

Sadia began writing about travel as a hobby, filing notes on a personal blog from whichever city she happened to be in. The posts that readers wrote back about were never the ones with itineraries; they were the ones about a missed train, a market stall, or a conversation that ran longer than the museum visit. She took the hint and made the small things her subject.

She joined the Axplorers journal in 2022 as its first dedicated blog writer, and now writes the pieces that sit between the studio’s itineraries and its reporting: the essays, the planning notes and the guides that readers keep open on their phones. Her editing rule is simple. If a sentence could appear in any travel post about anywhere, it goes.

She works from London, usually in the same café, drafting by hand before typing anything up. She keeps a running file of sentences she liked from other writers, answers most reader emails herself, and is known among colleagues for reading every post aloud twice — once for sense, once for rhythm.
